For the past 4 years Matt has put 'Completing a Half Ironman' on his list of biggest goals. But he's always put it off due to fear and procrastination. Until now, where, along with his friend Conor, he overcomes endless doubt, fear, uncertainty and lack of training to go compete head on in a race that once seemed impossible to him...all with only 30 days of training.
Special people to thank for making this episode happen:

This video helped carry my motivation! In November of 2019, I signed up for Ironman Arizona 2020 to do my first full Ironman. I could barely run a mile without getting winded. I trained for a whole year, lost 20lbs, gained so much confidence, only to have every race of the year cancelled. It was hard to get back out there and continue to train, but 2021 seems hopeful. I am still training to hear the fateful words, “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN”.

It's 2020 and I'm 31 years old. I have almost died twice giving birth to my kids, I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, vitamin deficiencies, and anemia. I have hated my body my whole life and have been told by teachers and family that I'd never be fit or strong. I have always had this vision in my head of climbing a mountain and doing a one handed balance pose right on the edge...I'm deathly afraid of heights and I'm overweight. There's no way.

This video was such an inspiration when I needed it most. Last summer my husband and I suddenly and traumatically lost our kid while hiking- an experience that threw us both into a downward spiral. I had been lacking motivation and sense of purpose. When I saw this video I immediately felt like this was something I needed to do for myself. My training was virtually non-existent: in the last 2 months, I only ran once a week, biked every other week, and swam once a month. I only did it when I felt like it. I wanted it to be fun! Then last Wednesday, I woke up and just decided to go for it. I did an unofficial Half Ironman by myself, for myself, and for my kid. I have been watching your videos for well over a year now and have loved the message and support you guys bring to your friends and community. You inspired me when I was at my lowest and I wanted you guys to know how much it has impacted me!

You guys have no idea how much this video means to me. All those emotions in the beginning of the video are what I'm experiencing now. A couple months ago I signed up for the United States Marine Corps and I leave for boot camp in about a month. I stopped going to workouts because I was scared that I had made the wrong decision. I hate running, I hate being tired and I hate being uncomfortable. What I hate most about myself is me knowing these things and not doing anything about it. Knowing there are other people like me really does put things in perspective. I lost sight on why I joined and what I'm doing this for. I'm doing it to prove to myself that I can accomplish whatever the hell I put my mind to. I regret that it had taken me this long to actually do something about it, but I'll do it. I sure as hell won't be the first person in boot camp, but I will give it my all, physically and mentally. I will continue and will only leave that camp if it's by force or in some body bag . But mark my words, in just a few months I will earn the title United States Marine.

Hey guys, how are you? I discovered your channer few days ago, im grinding your videos and i love the way you face life. First of all i’m sorry for my english, i hope ill be able to explain everything! I’m Andrea, im 31, im from Italy (Sardinia) and im paraplegic following a bicycle accident when i was 13 years old. I just went straing instead of making a curve during a downhill at 75kmh (46mph) during a cycling workout :D I like your motto and in my life i always tried to seek discomfort, dream things, encounter problems and find solutions. I like to solve problems, i think it’s what give me most satisfaction in my life. Few years ago i started a project with my two all life best friends in which i should became one of the few paraplegic skydivers in the world. The project’s name was Learn2Fly - Dimentica i tuoi limiti (forget your limits facebook.com/L2Fskydive/). We needed some thousands € (that we didn’t have) to make this happen so we decided to make a documentary to raise some money from sponsors and spread the message that everyone can do anything. We found a director and a producer interested in making the documentary and few sponsors that helped us to fly to Empuriabrava (Spain), try the wind-tunnel and make a teaser video to show to bigger sponsors. I made the error to delegate to director and producer most of the work finding sponsors, they forgot that the main mission was LEARN TO FLY so all project fall through. This morning i watched the video in which Matt made half and full Ironman. Finish a full Ironman is a big dream that i have since few years, your video inspired me as few times in my life so i decided that i have to start again and make these two dreams come true -NOW-. I’m writing to you guys because i would love to collaborate with you making this adventures reality. I want to achieve these goals and i would love to demonstrate to everyone in the world that anyone can overcome his limits and make his dreams come true --with you--!! Now i run a small successfull business with one of those all life best friends, we have more budget to invest in this project so this time it will be easier to make it real :) I hope you will find these ideas interesting and i hope you accept to communicate with me and talk about this project! I’m just deciding when to smoke last cigarette and start training again! Love you guys, keep pushing your limits, hope to hear from you soon
