I lived on the streets of LA for 48 hours

What would you do if you lost everything? Ammar decides to live on the streets of LA for 48 hours in hopes gain a better appreciation for the simple things that he takes for granted in life.
All proceeds from this video will go to www.safeplaceforyouth.org to provide care and support to youth experiencing homelessness.
* Ammar was by no means trying to simulate homelessness or pretend like he knows what being homeless feels like, he was just trying to deprive himself of everything and see how he'd handle it.

Being homeless is exhausting. First, you never know when you will get your next good meal, constantly trying to find calories to burn, often finding yourself in a caloric deficit, carrying your entire livelihood with you every time you move.. Next is the fact that there is no "full nights rest". When I was homeless there was never a night when I wasn't woken up by the police and told to "move along", or find myself in a situation where I was too scared to sleep. Finally you have the emotional stress. The loneliness, the constant worry, the way society looks at you and disregards you as "less than human".. Being homeless is a unique and difficult thing to live with, much less overcome. Thanks for bringing some attention to this struggle. ♥️♥️♥️

I admire the effort, but what people do not realize is that surviving 2 days on the streets knowing full well that you can go home after, is easy. Just think what a person would be going through not knowing when they will ever see a bed or their next meal for that matter, not for 2 days but for a time they do not know if will end. That mindset would be so crushing.

I don’t know what i would do if completely lost everything but you have to in some sense prepare yourself just in case it happens as you never know what life can bring i just hoe that i will never have to live on the streets and I’m thankful that i have a roof over my head i know two friends who live on the streets but the sad thing is there are two sides to the story. Side one she was told that her sister no longer wanted her not to live with her anymore and she had no house to move into and thats how she met the person she is now friends with and has been for years. Side two is that she had sadly chosen to go homeless and even though she has been offered a flat or house she turned it down wanting to live on the streets and she is 80 years old and not Lon ago come out of hospital. This is why we should be grateful for what we have. If i had to do it for 48 hours i would set an alarm on my watch every one hour or two hours just to try and get some sleep but for the most part i would literally just walk all day and most of the night to take my mind of things

i live in Vancouver, we have the highest rate of homelessness in all of Canada. other provinces send their homeless to us because we are not as cold as the rest of the country during the winters. it’s so sad seeing thousands of people on East Hastings when i’m driving to work/school. This video really made me check my privilege. I didn’t know how lucky I am to have my friends and family to protect me, I really take it for granted. The world turned their backs on these people, they’re left alone on the streets.

Sorry, 24 and 48 hours isn’t desperate enough time to start dumpster diving for food in the trash. Zero chance that part was real. You have tons of other options before you got to that point. You could jack something at a grocery store or start knocking on residential doors to ask for yard work for a few hours for a measly $5. Then hit the dollar store for water and cheap food. No way you’re gonna eat out of the trash in 2 days. Fake af.

And having been homeless in NYC for 3 years (age 23-25; I am now 26), despite coming from wealth and having been a successful freelance model, increasingly having become reliant on oxycodone to numb my deep emotional wounds, it’s my opinion that Anmar hits the nail on the head here. When I was homeless, especially when I experienced it in LA (albeit briefly) the WORST part was loneliness. Trust me, you don’t know what that level of loneliness is like. Ironically, prior to me being homeless (heck, even while I was homeless) I would stop and talk to homeless people just to ask them how they are doing and to pray for them and make a donation. I would just sit with them in silence sometimes, or let them cry because another birthday had passed unnoticed with no birthday wishes. Yes, birthdays are the worst on the streets.

I love this channel and this episode had a really good message of gratefulness. One thing that was eating at me the whole time I watched this was that 48h is an absolute joke. Even a week is nothing in comparison to a season or years of living on the streets. People didn't even think he was homeless because his clothes were brand new. If he spent more time he would truly see what it would be like and he would learn to adapt, panhandle and find ways to get food. Even though this episode was my least favorite I still think it was really good for the gratefulness factor because I felt it myself. Would like to see one of you guys try this for 1 week and if you really want to push it, one month. Fly me out to LA. I'll do it for 1 month for your channel.
